Who this is for
Laptops and workstations should arrive imaged, secured and standardised, and leave the fleet wiped and accounted for.
You probably need this if…
- You're onboarding many new hires at once with inconsistent device specs.
- A refresh cycle is due and there's no standard build to roll out.
- Design, rendering or AI workloads are too slow on current hardware.
- Nobody can say what devices are deployed, where, or under what warranty.
- There's no secure process for retiring and disposing of old devices.
- Support tickets keep repeating across a fleet of mismatched hardware.
Where it applies
Probably not the right fit when…
- A handful of devices bought occasionally, where standardisation wouldn't add value.
- Existing hardware that's running current workloads fine with years of life left.
Technical overview
End-user compute is a lifecycle, not a purchase: right-size the specification per role, image once, deploy at scale, support it, and retire it securely.
Technologies we work with
Reference architecture
Design principles
- Define device personas from application requirements, mobility, security, supportability and expected lifecycle.
- Standardise validated configurations and permit exceptions only where measured workload requirements justify them.
- Automate enrolment, encryption, configuration, patching and compliance reporting through centrally managed endpoint controls.
- Select GPUs using VRAM, compute requirements, thermal and power limits, software certification and sustained workload performance.
Specification baseline
| Aspect | Specification | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Device personas | Map each role to CPU, memory, storage, graphics, display, ports, mobility and support requirements | Role-based standards improve consistency and procurement predictability. |
| Memory and storage | Validate against the largest supported business applications and realistic concurrent workloads | Insufficient memory or storage can undermine otherwise suitable hardware. |
| Endpoint management | Use managed enrolment, policy-based configuration, application deployment and compliance reporting | Repeatable provisioning reduces setup effort and configuration drift. |
| Security | Enforce full-disk encryption, endpoint detection and response, secure boot and supported patch levels | Endpoint controls protect local data and reduce compromise risk. |
| GPU selection | Validate VRAM, workload, driver support, application certification, power and cooling | GPU performance depends on the application and complete system configuration. |
| Lifecycle | Align warranty, repairability, operating-system support and refresh timing with total cost of ownership | Lifecycle planning reduces downtime and unsupported-device exposure. |
Key design decisions
Endpoint form factor
Mobility, hybrid work, portability or integrated battery backup is required.
Sustained performance, expansion, peripherals or upgrade flexibility outweigh portability.
GPU architecture
Office applications, standard displays and light graphics workloads meet performance requirements.
Certified CAD, rendering, AI, simulation or other accelerated workloads justify additional memory, power and cooling.
Sizing & calculations
Standard configuration = measured application requirements plus operating-system overhead and planned workload headroom.
An application using 10 GB on a 16 GB device leaves at most 6 GB for the operating system and other processes; actual headroom is lower when other workloads are active.
GPU selection must meet the application's VRAM requirements, driver support and certified configuration constraints.
A workload requiring 20 GB of GPU memory cannot be assumed to fit on a GPU with 16 GB of VRAM.
Lifecycle budget = purchase and deployment + support and repair + software and management + secure disposal, less justified residual value.
A device costing ₹80,000 with ₹20,000 in lifecycle support and management costs has a five-year planning cost of ₹1,00,000 before residual value and other costs.
